BRAIN DRAIN IN NEPAL
The emigration of highly skilled or qualified manpower (people) from a Nepalese country to abroad. The migration of individuals due to the lack of favorable professional opportunities, lack of higher standard living availability, for quality education, organizational and industrial level in a country like Nepal. The major problem of brain drain is the excessive fluctuation in the economy and the open border of India and also the increasing of internet use which creates the two the situation first which benefits the individuals easily access of communication and second which changes the intention to leave the country ( for better pay, living standards, etc).
“No one wants to leave their home country”, Every individual has a unique capacity and qualified people and qualified skills but the political instability and the negligence of local state and federal government which discourages the individual to stay in the host country. So, they apply for foreign to utilize their competency which they have. And the lack of initiation inappropriate laboratory, lack of funding for their dream project.
According to World Bank, agricultural land (percentage of land area) in Nepal was reported as 28.75% in 2014. The world bank concludes that the agricultural land is in decreasing phase day by day. In the survey 2017/2018 of Nepal Planning Commission concluded that the formally involved in the agricultural sector 1.3% of total employment and informally involved 20.2% of total employment. Whereas the Formally involved in non-agricultural sector 36.5% and informally involved in 41% which shows that the discouragement of the individual in the agriculture sector.
A survey which was conducted in 123 farmers, they replied on these questions:
1.      Why you are going to leave this occupation (agriculture)?
Ans: Most of them replied, “the lack of irrigation, grant, and facilities of the government which we need so we are failed to increase in the productivity and we can’t earn enough money to sustain or survive our family”.
2.      What will you do?
Ans: Most of them replied that “we go abroad and earn money and do some business and by some modern technology for agriculture or cultivate the land which helps to produce more and we can easily sustain and survive our family.
3.      What will you expect from the government?
Ans: Most of them replied that the first is the initiation of government in the agricultural sector, easy access to agricultural loan, modern technology and the major initiation on irrigation facilities, soil testing facilities and best fertilizer availability and seeds and reasonable price of agricultural products.
In recent year, the report of Labour Migration for Employment which showed that the number of migrants leaving Nepal for work is increasing every year. Generally, the government policy of Nepal and Malaysia which decreases the migration of worker. 95 percent of all labor permits are given to men. Closely, the migrants are followed by these countries Qatar, Arabia, UAE, Kuwait. This means the countries economy will be in a problem after the certain periods of time. So, The government needs to focus on effective economic decision, Agricultural survey and initiation, manufacturing industries promotion, tourism development and easy for foreign investment.
